DESTINATION DEVELOPMENT

SKULLERUD

An original Maverick City concept created in collaboration with HRTB architects for the Opsahl Group. The project included Insight and Research, Vision and Destination Concept, Masterplan, Communication and Consulting with PBE (building authorities).

Skullerud is an area southeast of the city center of Oslo. It sits right at the edge of wild forest and has a rich history of farming and industry. Maverick and HRTB architects won the competition for the development of a Masterplan for the area.

The winning direction was based on the history and qualities that make Skullerud a unique area. Our concept draws on a new form of multi-functional “localism” where people can live, work, produce and play. The development will be formed around three essential thematic and experiential axes points:

1: Wild vs. Cultivated, 2: Tradition vs. Modernity and 3: Private vs. Social.

We are currently working with the Opsahl Group to materialize the vision for the area. Our first deliverable so far has been an in depth presentation and argumentation for a multi-functional development plan that included an account of the historic value of the areas industry and architecture and why it should be preserved to the building authorities. Based on positive signals from PBE (building authorities) the Opsahl Group has recently bought the remaining buildings at Skullerud and are now in the process of securing financing for development.
